Each Lightwood clock is handcrafted in Elora, Ontario, using carefully selected pieces of salvaged hardwood encased in a precision-cut steel ring. Every clock is mechanically fastened and built to last for generations. The natural wood is stable and will not warp under normal indoor conditions.
Your clock is designed to perform reliably in temperatures between –10°C and +40°C, though it’s best kept in a consistent, indoor environment.
Avoid exposure to moisture or direct humidity, as this can damage both the wood and the movement.
Keep the clock at room temperature throughout the year for optimal performance and longevity.
Each clock features a Takane quartz movement — a high-end Japanese mechanism built in the USA. It offers exceptional accuracy and quiet operation.
Powered by one AA battery, the movement should run for a year or longer on a fresh battery.
We recommend replacing the battery annually to ensure consistent timekeeping.
The clock hands are crafted from lightweight aluminum and require gentle handling.
The hour hand is friction-fitted onto the movement shaft and pressed into place by hand.
The minute hand slides onto the movement head and is secured with a small brass nut.
If the hands ever become misaligned (for example, showing the wrong hour when the minute hand points to 12):
Use the adjustment wheel on the back of the movement to rotate the hands until the minute hand points exactly to 12.
Gently reposition the hour hand by pushing it with your thumbs so it also points to 12.
Once both hands align, use the adjustment wheel again to set the correct time.
If a hand becomes loose:
Re-press the hour hand gently back onto the movement shaft.
Tighten the brass nut on the minute hand if needed.
When reinstalling hands after shipping, always test by rotating the hands through several full turns to ensure:
The hands do not touch each other.
The hands do not rub the face of the clock.
If contact occurs, carefully bend the affected hand slightly forward or backward until it moves freely.
Lightwood clocks are built to last — and built to be securely mounted. Each piece includes a steel hanging ring and a drywall hook system with three nails.
To mount:
Position the hook where you want the clock to hang.
Hammer in all three nails through the hook base.
Hang the clock by the attached steel ring, ensuring it rests fully within the hook (not on the nails themselves).
For brick, stone, or wood walls, use an appropriately rated screw or anchor.
Note: Heavier clocks should always be mounted by a qualified installer.
Lightwood Designs assumes no liability for injury or damage resulting from improper installation or mounting failure.
Each Lightwood clock is more than a timepiece — it’s a story preserved in wood and steel. With simple care and attention, it will continue to mark the moments of your life beautifully and reliably for decades to come.
